Prevention Specialist II

Reports To: COPE/TOR Prevention Specialist I

Job Purpose:
The Tribal Opioid Response (TOR) Prevention Specialist II will be responsible for assisting the Prevention Specialist I in the planning and implementing program activities associated to opioid misuse and addiction prevention for our tribal youth and members within the Seminole Nation communities. This role will help enhance health and wellness for program participants and promote protective factors that will lead to individuals to make healthier choices for them and their families. The Prevention Specialist II will assist with culturally appropriate prevention strategies while providing prevention education and help identify community members who may be at higher risk for opioid abuse, this will allow the Prevention Specialist I to enroll these members into the COPE Program under the TOR grant. Overall, this role will support all initiatives of this program and carry out the program’s mission, goals, and objectives in a positive and meaningful way.
Job Duties:
• Assist in the development and disseminate culturally and best practiced opioid prevention education to youth, elders, and other community members during presentations and community health events.
• Assist in conducting youth and cultural events that will focus on strength based, protective factors that will focus on opioid and substance abuse prevention.
• Assist in the facilitation meetings and events set forth by the Prevention Specialist I.
• Collect community feedback to strengthen the COPE Program Initiatives and overall Seminole Nation and surrounding tribal communities.
• Responsible for building trust with program participants and providing encouragement for consistent program participation.
• Provide important program measures, reports, and progress to Prevention Specialist I and Program Coordinator.
• Network and build community partnerships with other tribal opioid and substance abuse programs that focus on mental health, opioid misuse and abuse prevention, treatment and recovery, and will identify and refer community members who will benefit under the TOR grant and COPE program.
• Provide support and attend community outreach events, health fairs, and conferences to provide health promotion, community awareness, and anti-opioid use messaging.
• Always maintain a healthy and safe work environment.
• Provide bi-weekly updates that highlight program strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to the Prevention Specialist I during COPE Program staff meetings.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Experience working in tribal and youth related programs.
Work Environment:
• Work is performed in an interior/office environment.
Physical Demands:
• The TOR Prevention Specialist II may need to work outside normal business hours to meet deadlines and fulfill job requirements.
• Must have own reliable transportation and be willing to use it for work travel.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
• Education in a Mental health, Public Health, or Social Services field highly preferred.
• In lieu of education, 10 years of experience in the field of prevention and community awareness will be considered.
• Certified as a Prevention Specialist or Peer Recovery Specialist preferred.
• Experience working with youth in schools and community setting also preferred.
• Must be able to aid participants during crisis and provide referrals and resources to promote healing and recovery.
• Experience in program implementation, public speaking, and able to conduct presentations to target audience a must.
• Valid Oklahoma driver’s license with ability to meet Seminole Nation liability insurance requirements and maintain eligibility for insurance.
• Must be able to pass background check; no felonies or convictions within a 7-year timeframe.
• Must be able to comply with the Seminole Nation Drug Free Workplace policies.
